President Trump: March for Life a movement born out of love

Every year, for 45 years, near the anniversary of Roe v Wade, crowds of people make a pilgrimage to the United States Capital, Washington DC, to March for Life.  This year was no exception, with what some are calling a record-breaking turn out of hundreds of thousands.

The organisers describe the March as the “largest annual human rights demonstration in the world.”

This year’s theme was “Love Saves Lives.”

Just days before the March an announcement was made that the President, Mr Donald Trump, would address participants.  This he did, standing at the podium in the Rose Garden of the White House surrounded by mothers and babies.  His address was live-streamed to the crowd gathered at the Mall.

“Under my administration, we will always defend the very first right in the Declaration of Independence, and that is the right to life” Trump declared.

Speaking of abortion, he asserted “It is wrong, it has to change.”

Trump went on to acknowledge the tireless work of those who work to defend life saying that “the March for Life is a movement born out of love, you love your families you love your neighbors, you love our nation.”

“I want to thank every person here today who works with such big hearts and tireless devotion to make sure parents have the care and support they need to choose life… because of you, tens of thousands of Americans have been born and reached their God-given potential.”

Two other Presidents in previous years have called to express their support.  Ronald Reagan in 1987 and George W. Bush in 2003 and 2004.  However, this is the first time a President has directly addressed March for Life participants.

Prior to introducing the President, Vice President Mike Pence also addressed the March saying

“I believe with all of my heart, with your continued dedication and compassion, with pro-life majorities in the Congress, with President Donald Trump in this White House and with God’s help, we will restore the sanctity of life to the center of American law.”

“Know as you march for life that your compassion, your persistence, your activism, and your prayers are saving lives.”

Jeanne Mancini, the President of March for Life told the rally crowd “today we March so that tomorrow we don’t have to… today we March so that abortion ends soon.”

Approximately 60 million children have been aborted since 1973 when Roe v. Wade was passed making abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy legal in the United States.
